Interactive Number Line

During Creative Cornerstones this summer, a teacher in one of my sessions shared this wonderfully frugal idea. Jeanette Ladner used an empty lamination roll as the basis for this interactive number line. Each laminated number strip is wrapped around the tube and secured behind. This makes the numbers interactive, as you can push them forward and backwards as you count etc.

It would be perfect for addition problems too. If the problem was two plus three, the child could push the number flaps for two then push down three more to get 5. Of course, if you can use it for addition, then subtraction is also an option.

It is perfect for comparing numbers as greater than and less them as well. The possibilities are endless!!!

Thanks Jeanette Ladner from Stow City Schools for sharing this great idea with me and giving me permission to share it on my blog!!!

Networking with Teachers

Today was a Science filled day! It was fun networking with all of the PreK-K teachers at The Creative Cornerstones class. The participants were very helpful and supportive. I am thankful to one class participant, Heidi, for snapping some pictures of me as I did some experiments.

Napa cabbage is great for showing how leaves get/need water. This cabbage shows the colors really being soaked in colored water. I was surprised to find Napa cabbage was in our local Kroger store.

Procedures for these experiments will be posted soon!

Creative Cornerstones

Today I finished up my sessions at Creative Cornerstones. My half day sessions focused on Math instruction in Kindergarten and Preschool. I thoroughly enjoyed growing professionally as I shared ideas with others and gained new ideas from attendees as well. Today's session went really well. Thank you so much for your feedback and suggestions. Enjoy the rest of your week. Make the most of your time at Creative Cornerstones this year. Hopefully I will see you again soon.

Keep checking back as I continue to post more of the ideas that were shared this year. If you missed it, please consider joining us next year.

My presentation was only half day this year. Wow was that different! The participants were so incredible! I got wonderful feedback and learning suggestions or ideas.
The session was entitled "Not so common, Common Core Math".
What a wonderful way to share the ideas that work in my classroom!
It was a very rewarding day!

Creative Cornerstones

Today was a great day. The Creative Cornerstones class was very successful. I thoroughly enjoyed networking with so many wonderful teachers. Thanks to all of you for the wonderful cuddos you offered me. Thanks for helping me to grow professionally as I presented today. Many of you shared wonderful ideas that worked for you. I am excited to use some of your great ideas in my classroom as well. Thanks for your willingness to embrace ideas that have worked for me in my classroom.

Foam duck puppet.

You can tell I am presenting in full force. Retelling board for 5 Little Ducks is in my hand. My "hat" is a rubber ducky shower cap.  It helps set the stage for me to be mother duck and quack loudly for my ducklings to return home.
